The Good Friday Appeal: When Angels Fly…

It’s on again! Students of Sage are rolling up their sleeves and getting to work for the annual Good Friday Appeal for the Royal Children’s Hospital. Fans on Facebook may remember the fun and frivolity that was had last year at the Royal Children’s Hospital, when some were lucky enough to be ‘touched by an Angel’. Our Sage Massage Angels offered their marvellous massage services to the (grateful) community while Nova 100’s Meshel and Tommy kept everyone laughing along in the queue. All in all, the day was a hoot. And now, it’s time to do it all again for the Good Friday Appeal!

The Good Friday Appeal

good friday appeal history

Some of you may not know that The Good Friday Appeal has a rich history, starting way back in 1931 when a group of sportsmen and journalists organised a sporting carnival in aid of charity. Fortunately, the Royal Children’s Hospital was chosen as the beneficiary. Since then, the annual event has raised over $274 million for the hospital. The event brings together people from all parts of the community to raise vital funds for research, education and equipment.

The Good Friday Appeal is buoyed along by the incredible strength of the community, with thousands of people volunteering their time and services to organise fundraising events throughout the year. These events lead up to an action-packed, fun-filled, all-day Telethon, which is broadcast live across Victoria on Good Friday.

Sage Massage Angel Action

meshel laurie with Sage Massage angelsOur dutiful Sage Massage Angels are once again contributing to the event – in fact contributions to the charity have already started. On both Elsternwick and Collins Street Clinic campuses, since 1st February 2015, $5 from every massage has been contributed.

And now, from Monday, 23rd of March, Sage Institute of Massage will be giving a whopping $25 – the entire fee for a student clinic massage – to the appeal. Our Sage Massage Angels will then be at the Royal Children’s Hospital on Good Friday to soothe the aching muscles of more eager recipients.
